Mong Tong 夢東 means many things in Chinese, but the translation that Tepei-based brothers Hom Yu and Jiun Chi choose to fit their music is “the east-side of dreams”. With the arrival of their debut album Mystery 秘神 due out in less than two weeks, the pair have revealed another hypnotic temptation in 'Ancient Mars'. Sitting at the heart of the track, a churning beat rotates languidly in a highly atmospheric space as waning guitars and fluttering flute work occupy the hollow-sounding soundscape. Immersing you deeper with intimately played percussion, which has a visceral effect on the senses, 'Ancient Mars' has the ability the make all of your hairs stand on end as you surrender yourself to its otherworldliness. Mystery 秘神 will be released via Kikagaku Moyo's Guruguru Brain label on the 19th of June. -Holly Mullineaux
